Avocado Chocolate Mousse!
Yes, you read this right chocolate mousse made with avocado as the base!
Avocados are one of those fats we truly can eat more of. However, they are high in calories (if you are watching), which are countered by a ton of other health promoting properties such as digestive health (they are high in dietary fibre), healthy skin (you can eat them, make a face mask and even condition your hair with it)! Great for the heart and therefore blood, brain function, immunity and the developing fetus during pregnancy (have you ever wondered why they are shaped like a womb! Now you know).
This dessert also includes raw cacao, bursting with a variety of health promoting benefits, including magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium, zinc, copper and manganese, it is also high in antioxidants including resveratrol, (a potent antioxidant also found in red wine), so for teetotallers like me this offers a great alternative.
Avocado Chocolate Mousse
Recipe makes 1 serving | Takes 5 minutes to prepare
What You Need
1 small or half of a large ripe avocado
1 - 2 tablespoon of maple syrup
1 - 2 tablespoon of raw cacao powder (depending on how chocolate you like it)
1 tablespoon of melted coconut oil
2 - 4 tablespoons of non-dairy milk (nut milk, hemp, coconut, organic soya etc.)
1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
A pinch of cayenne powder
optional - 1/2 of a frozen banana
Extras - chia seed jam or berry compote and coconut cream
Blender – a high speed one would work better, however a normal domestic blender will also work, but will take a little longer
How To Do It
- Add all the ingredients into your blender, and combined well until all the ingredients have blended well.
- You can enjoy this mousse as it is on its own, or place some chia seed jam or compote at the bottom of a dessert glass, add the mousse then pour over some coconut cream or whip the cream first for a more indulgent dessert!
